Throughout the year, From The Farmer puts a lot of energy into spreading love amongst various partners that have goals of doing good in our community. By donating fresh produce through our farm partners, creating canned food drives, and providing donation options for our customers, we're able to offer support to a select group of organizations that we believe align with our mission.

Miriam's Kitchen is one of those organizations.

Started in 1983, Miriam's Kitchen (MK) is a dynamic service provider with a mission to end chronic homelessness in DC. They offer multiple programs, each one providing unique aspects for a holistic oasis that allow guests to get back on their feet with dignity. Among their offerings, MK gives guests the chance to participate in art therapy classes, yoga, housing services, a fantastic meal program, and case management that focuses on fulfilling basic needs, resume review, job search assistance and much more.

What really caught our attention was their amazing meal program. Offering two meals a day - breakfast and dinner - MK sees about 300 guests come through their doors daily, but what's most impressive is the menu! By sourcing through donations from farmers markets and grocery stores in the DC area, they focus on providing fresh, healthy meals for guests. Scrambled eggs with smoked salmon, roasted veggies, freshly baked cornbread, and French toast with berries are just a few options offered to guests when they sit down for a meal in MK's dining room. By giving choices and creating meals cooked healthily by in-house chefs, MK is providing a nourishing meal - and environment - for those who may otherwise not have a safe haven.

“Today we know that great food can be transformative. We strive to show our guests dignity through these restaurant-quality meals produced by professional chefs and providing a space where they truly feel like they belong. This is the foundation for our guests to build trusting relationships with the case management team and get connected to a range of services aimed to get them housed. ”
— Chef Ciji Wagner, Executive Chef at Miriam’s Kitchen
