Healthy alternatives to comfort

Healthy alternatives to comfort

Now that we’re beginning this new year, clean eating tips, detox rituals, and “new year, new you” ads are all over the place. We’re not all about the fads, and love to focus on creating a healthy lifestyle that doesn’t include deprivation. Instead, we’re opting for flavor, nourishment, and long-lasting practices.

So, we’ve put together ten meal, snack, and dessert ideas for you to make at home that incorporate wholesome ingredients, but don’t skimp on taste. Use these fun recipes from some of our favorite bloggers to treat yourself without the guilt – and get some fruit and veggie servings in, too. (You might even get your family on board while you’re at it!)

Grain-Free Cinnamon Crunch Granola – Opting out of heavy oats and replacing them with nutrient-dense nuts, coconut, and blood-sugar-balancing cinnamon makes this granola a premium choice to pair with yogurt or your favorite milk – and is sure to keep you rockin’ through the day.

Paleo Pancakes – Get the day started with these simple, yet delicious, pancakes that only have three main ingredients. Add toppings like the granola above, fresh fruit, a drizzle of pure maple syrup, and serve alongside your favorite pastured breakfast sausage – meal complete!

Main Meals & Sides:
Cauliflower Mashed “Potatoes” – The perfect side for your roast chicken, or a fantastic sub for carb-loaded white potatoes at holiday meals. Simple, delicious, guilt-free.

Healthy Mac & Cheese – Your cravings, and your belt, will thank you for this! Super tasty, creamy, and not the least bit heavy.

Coconut Crusted Chicken Strips – Finger food at its finest! These chicken tenders will bring out the inner-kid in you and impress even your little ones at home.

Loaded Vegetarian Lentil Sloppy Joes – Meatless, but certainly not flavorless – cook up this sloppy Joe alternative when you’re craving something really down-home, but want to keep it veggie-centric.

Brussels Sprouts Chips – The perfect crunch & satisfying saltiness, snacking on these Brussels sprouts chips are a great alternative to “accidentally” eating through a whole bag of the greasy potato kind. (Yeah, we’ve been there, too.)

Strawberry Fruit Leather – When that sweet tooth hits at 3 PM, you’ll be happy to have this fruit leather in your bag. Made with beets, strawberries, lemon, and a little sweetener, these fruit leather strips are much easier than you’d ever imagine and chockfull of vitamin C.

Vegan Apple & Oat Tartlets – An apple a day… right? Take the apple to another level with these tartlets that are sure to impress your friends and your tastebuds.

Black Bean Brownies – There’s nothing that will be more of a hit than these brownies at a party! Sure, black bean + brownie sounds a little scary, but once you try them you won’t make brownies any other way.
