Although we’ve been so fortunate to enjoy a long few months of unusually warm weather throughout fall and into the beginning of winter, there’s still a threat of coming down with a cold or sore throat during this vulnerable time of year. We really enjoy the farm fresh items we receive from farmers and growers – so want to take advantage of using them for as much as we can!
This homemade syrup is wonderful for soothing sore throats, repelling coughs, and overall keeping you up to par with your health!
Honey Lemon Ginger Throat Syrup
2 lemons, juice + rind
1 inch piece fresh ginger, grated
1/4 cup honey, raw & unfiltered
3 sprigs rosemary
1/4 cup coconut oil, unrefined
1. Begin by cutting up the lemon rind into medium-sized pieces or strips. Then, in a small saucepan heated over low-medium heat, whisk together lemon juice and rind, grated ginger, and raw honey. Continue to keep over heat and stir until all ingredients are combined.
2. While still warm (not hot, though), pour mixture into a small glass jar and add coconut oil and rosemary sprigs. Stir to combine coconut oil well.
3. Close with air-tight lid, and keep in refrigerator until use. This syrup will keep in the fridge for up to about 10 weeks.
Make the most of this sore throat syrup by adding to a cup of hot water or tea – perfect for the first sign of a cold or sore throat coming on!
Note: This syrup is great for kids and adults alike, but its not suitable for infants under the age of 12 months.
