What is From the Farmer?
We are an online food delivery company with a mission to make good food more convenient. Founded in 2011 out of a desire to build community with food, From the Farmer is constantly evolving to better serve our growing customer base. What kind of food do you sell?
The From the Farmer team makes choices so you don’t have to. Carefully curated, our store is packed with the season’s best farm-fresh produce (available only in local markets), sustainable meats (available in our local and regional markets), and artisan pantry items (available nationwide!).
How do you deliver such fresh food?
Good food begins with the source. Our close relationships with farmers and foodmakers allows us to provide our customers with the highest quality, most tasty and thoughtfully produced food- with some of our items going from dirt to front-door in less than 24 hours - it doesn’t get much fresher than that!
What makes shopping with From the Farmer so easy?

How do you choose the items available in your store?
For us, its personal. Good food begins with good people, and choosing the right partners is just as important as finding the right products. Their stories are all different, but the characters are always the same; we connect with people that have a passion for their work, a love of community and a transparent process for cultivating it all. I previously bought something from you that I loved and it’s not available right now. How do I put in a request for more of that product?
Email our customer care team at firstname.lastname@example.org with which product you’re looking for and they’ll forward this along to the curation team. Once the item comes back in stock we’ll be sure to alert you via email so you don’t miss out on stocking your pantry or fridge!
Do you carry food for people with allergies or dietary restrictions?
Yes! Most of our packaged items have a list of ingredients available for your review prior to purchase. If there’s a FTF product you’re considering and we don’t have ingredients or allergens listed - or if you are seeking further clarification - please email our customer care team at email@example.com and they’ll gather the product information you need!
There’s a product that I’d love for you to carry—how do I request it?

Placing Orders - Butcher Shop Customers
I’m ordering only from your Butcher Shop and don’t live in the local delivery area - when will my order ship?
We ship all orders containing meat products via 1-day common carrier (FedEx, UPS, etc) on Wednesdays. Your order must be placed by Sunday at midnight prior the shipping date to ensure delivery the same week. Shipping on Wednesdays ensures your order arrives on Thursday and is ready for grilling on Friday!
How is my Butcher Shop order packaged?
Butcher Shop orders containing our sustainable meats are packaged in a 1.5” thick styrofoam mailer and packed with ice or dry-ice where appropriated by weather and delivery times. All of our orders are packed late in the day from our deep freezer and hand delivered to the local common carrier to ensure product quality.
How can I cancel or modify an order?
If your order has yet to ship - contact our customer care team at firstname.lastname@example.org and note your order number and your requested change and we’ll do our very best to accommodate!
How much is shipping?
All orders over $149 ship for free. All other orders will incur a flat $19 shipping and handling fee
Placing Orders - Local Customers Only
Why does product availability change from day-to-day and week-to-week?
While we do our best to make sure the ‘staples’ are always available, the availability of other items vary from day-to-day and week-to-week based on harvest schedules, weather, and what’s available from our producers. Shop early and often to ensure you have access to the most items each and every week!
Can I edit my order after I’ve placed it?
You can change your delivery address and items in your order anytime before the order deadline of midnight three days prior to your delivery day (i.e. Saturday at midnight is the order deadline for Tuesday delivery, etc.) by emailing our customer care team at email@example.com. Order confirmation and additional payments will be required to meet the delivery deadline.
How does customization work?
We're customers just like you and also love being able to create our own From the Farmer experience. As we have expanded our store shelves we heard from many of you that you wanted more flexibility to not only get slightly less or more of one item but to skip a few items one week entirely and perhaps get more than just 2 of a single item. It’s because of this that we’ve launched the ability to Build Your Own Custom Box. The idea is simple - browse a curated selection of items that are a part of the farm boxes for that given week and add as much as you’d like. While the price is variable depending upon the items you select, when you build your own box you get exactly what you want! Still looking for even more items outside of the curated produce for the week? Simply browse the rest of the store before you check out and add items to your cart to your heart's content.
I receive a weekly Farm Box, how do I order other items?
Simply! Just browse our online store and checkout as you would when placing any other order. So long as your selected delivery day is the same as your Farm Box delivery day, there will be no order minimum or delivery charge.
Is there an order minimum?
Feel free to order as much or as little as you like! Orders over $59.00 automatically receive free shipping and Farm Box customers enjoy free delivery on any order received on their Farm Box delivery day.
When will I be charged for my order?
Farm Box customers with recurring weekly orders will be charged two days prior to the delivery day, for the weeks when your Farm Box is not skipped. Any additional orders will be charged at the time of order. By collecting your payment at the time of order we’re able to ensure that none of our orders are fraudulent and that we’re able to pay our farm partners and suppliers with payment terms that allow them to support and grow their businesses.
Farm Box Subscriptions - Local Customers
How do I change my shipping address or my delivery notes?
Contact us via email or live chat at firstname.lastname@example.org at least three days prior to your delivery arriving. We'll assist in updating your delivery address! Be sure to include any delivery notes you think our drivers may need to complete your drop-off during overnight hours!
Do I have to have a subscription to a Farm Box to get a delivery from From the Farmer?
No, you’re welcome to browse our store at any time and place an order for delivery (a delivery fee may apply.) However, we encourage all of our local customers to check out our Farm Boxes! With a Farm Box subscription you not only receive first access to this week's freshest items, you also always get free delivery for any orders received on your Farm Box delivery day!
What are the benefits of subscribing to a Farm Box?
Subscribing to a Farm Box assigns you a delivery day so you’ll always get free shipping for orders delivered alongside your Farm Box! Oftentimes,“first tastes” of the season are available exclusively in our Farm Boxes, giving you first access to the season’s best items.
Why is the delivery day of my Farm Box selected for me?
We assign you a delivery day to match other customers in your area based on your address. Delivering our Farm Boxes on assigned delivery days to you and your neighbors allows us to reduce our carbon footprint, while also supporting a handful of farmers and artisans throughout the week (they say that while we might sleep at night our food never does, so it’s fresh all week long)!
How do I subscribe to add-ons to my Farm Box so that I receive other recurring items (eggs, bread, coffee, and more!) at the same time?
The first time you subscribe to your Farm Box you’re given the option to add Farm Box add-ons like eggs, coffee, and bread to each of your Farm Box deliveries. If you’re an existing Farm Box subscriber and want to add these add-ons to your Farm Box delivery, please contact our customer care team at email@example.com and they’ll make sure you’re getting these add-ons each and every week!
Can I skip my delivery of eggs (or any other subscription) but still receive my Farm Box?
Certainly! Login to your subscription management page, find the week you want to skip your Farm Box add-ons and click ‘skip’ on any item you’d like to skip and we won’t include it in your delivery that week!
How do I skip a delivery of my Farm Box if I I’m going to be out of town?
Log into your subscription management page, find the week you’ll be out of town and click ‘skip’ on your Farm Box and your Farm Box add-ons. You’re only able to skip anywhere from a week to six months in the future.
I’m a Farm Box subscriber, how do I change the credit card that’s on my account?
Navigate to your account settings page and click on ‘Billing Information’ and ‘Edit Card’ to edit your card on file for your subscription.
Do you offer bi-weekly delivery schedules?
We do! However, this can only be done by our customer care team. If you're interested in a bi-weekly schedule, please email us at firstname.lastname@example.org and we'll happily assist you.
Delivery - Local Customers
What days do you deliver?
We currently deliver Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays each and every week!
Where do you deliver?
We currently deliver to local customers in hundreds of zip codes throughout Virginia, Washington, D.C., and Maryland. To see if you’re in our local delivery area, please input your address on our homepage!
When do you deliver?
We deliver all of our local orders overnight between 11 pm and 7 am on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday. For example, if you select Tuesday for your delivery day, you’ll have your delivery on your doorstep by 7am on Tuesday morning.
How much is delivery?
Delivery is free for our Farm Box customers when shopping for delivery on their Farm Box delivery day. All other orders ship free when the order total (after discounts) is greater than $59.00. Orders less than $59.00 will incur a $10.00 delivery charge.
I live in an apartment, how can I get my delivery?
We’ve delivered to hundreds of thousands of customers who live in apartments or other ‘access restricted’ homes or communities. When you complete your order please indicate in the provided notes section if you have a 24-hour concierge, a keypad with access to your building or community, or if you’re unsure how best to get you your delivery. We can leave a bag in a designated location that might not be your front door, but works for you. We can keep a key FOB copy on file for any Farm Box subscriber too. Our customer care team reviews every order that’s ever placed and will contact you to confirm any additional details needed to successfully make your delivery!
Packaging - Local Customers
How does my order arrive?
Your order will arrive, at a minimum, in an insulated From the Farmer bag. Depending on what you’ve ordered and the time of the year - additional packaging may be used to maintain the quality and integrity of your order. We do ask that you return any From the Farmer branded bags or hard-sided coolers with your next delivery! (You can leave everything at your drop-off location. Live in a closed access apartment? Leave with the front desk or outside- we’ll make sure to grab it!)
What should I do with my packaging once my order arrives?
Simple! Store any From the Farmer branded bags or hard-sided coolers in a safe place and place these items in your noted delivery location the night before your next delivery and we’ll pick them up when we drop off your fresh items! If you’ve got a stash of these bags or coolers and don’t anticipate ordering in the near future we ask that you contact us at email@example.com and we’ll schedule a time to pick up these items!
Can I return the other packaging included with my order (plastic containers, etc)?
Due to food safety requirements we’re unable to reuse any of the consumable packaging supplies (except the From the Farmer branded bags and hard-sided coolers) that are included in fulfillment of your order. We do encourage you to recycle these items with your local municipality!
How does my order stay cold?
We take great pride in making sure that the items you order are delivered in the highest quality at the right temperatures. As the weather changes from month to month we’ll modify our packaging based on your order to keep certain items cold and other items out of the weather-provided elements. We do ask that you return any From the Farmer branded bags or hard-sided coolers (see more below) with your next delivery! Simply leave your From the Farmer branded bag or cooler at your drop-off location prior to your delivery window.
Gift Cards & Discount Codes
How do I send someone a gift card?
Sending a gift card to From the Farmer is super simple! Browse our gift cards online in our store and choose the denomination you want to send. During checkout you’ll indicate the email address of the gift card recipient and we’ll send them a note letting them know they’ve got a gift to From the Farmer! Our gift cards are redeemable for any non-recurring orders placed through our online store.
I have a gift card. How do I redeem it?
Redeeming a gift card to From the Farmer couldn’t be easier! When placing an order simply input your gift card number in the Discounts / Gift Cards field of the cart checkout process and any available balance on your gift card will be applied to your order. Unfortunately, at this time, our gift cards can not be used to pay for any recurring orders (although - if you’re a local Farm Box subscriber or a meat box subscriber - feel free to use your gift card to place an order for additional great items to receive alongside your recurring delivery!).
How do I redeem a gift card or discount code?
When you complete checkout for your order you’ll have the option to input a ‘Discount Code’ in the shopping cart. Input the provided code to receive the stated discount. Having trouble redeeming a code? Email firstname.lastname@example.org with your code and we will assist.
Account Settings & Billing
Do I have to create an account to place an order?
Yes, creating an account is required before placing any order. Having an account makes shopping at From the Farmer easier for you and makes sure you’re not missing out on any exciting new products available for your purchase! We store your address, delivery information, shopping preferences, and order history for future use!
How do I create an account?
The first time you complete an order you’ll create your account with From the Farmer!
How do I reset my password?
Reset your password by clicking the ‘I Forgot my Password’ dialog on the account login page.
How do I get a receipt for my order?
You’ll receive a confirmation email each time an order is placed in your account. You can view your itemized bill and all previous purchase history on your account page at any time.
Why do I need to input my credit card for each non-subscription order?
Requiring you to input your card for each order allows us to be certain you’re the only one able to authorize charges for non-recurring orders placed on your account. We’re continually working with our online service partners to make checking out easier and hope to add ‘saved credit card’ features soon!
How do you keep my credit card information secure?
Credit card numbers stored for Farm Box subscriptions are never stored or passed through any From the Farmer server and stored in a PCI-compliant manner with our third party merchant processor. All purchase transactions made on From the Farmer are done on secured web servers so your information is secure at all times!
Legacy Customers (you subscribed before May 2016)
Do I need to create a new account?
Nope! We’ve moved your account to our new store for you! For your security, you will receive an email asking you to create a new password (we don’t store these in any way to move them to our new store) - if you’re trying to login for the first time and didn’t see this email - simply request a password reset on the login page to access your account.
I remember the half, single, and double bushels - where’d they go?
Our beloved half, single, and double bushel options are still here! They’re just masquerading in new names and with, what we believe to be, new features that make building the best basket for you and your household even easier. Our half bushel customers are receiving our small Regional Farm Box with a super secret upgrade which gets them a couple more great items each week! Our single bushel customers are receiving our large Regional Farm Box. And, our double bushel customers are receiving our large Regional Farmbox and our small Fruit Bundle!

I need to skip my Farm Box or some of my additional subscriptions - how do I do this?
Just login to your account at www.fromthefarmer.com and click the large button on the left side of your account page which says ‘delivery schedule.' Then just select 'click to suspend' on any subscription for any week! If you’re going to be out of town and have multiple add-ons to your Farm Box - make sure you ‘suspend’ each line item. Need help? Email us at email@example.com and we’ll get back to you right away. Keep in mind, any suspensions to your Farm Box or your add-on subscriptions must be done by midnight three days prior your scheduled delivery day.
What are the deadlines for skipping my Farm Box (and other add-ons) or placing an order to arrive alongside my Farm Box?
All skips to your recurring items and any orders to be delivered at the same time as your Farm Box must be placed by midnight three days prior your scheduled delivery day (Saturday at midnight for deliveries made Tuesday morning).

You said I can order other items without a delivery fee so long as it’s delivered at the same time as my Farm Box - how do I do this?
Easy! Just login to your From the Farmer account at fromthefarmer.com - select the same delivery day as your Farm Box delivery day (it will be auto-selected for you so long as it’s an option based on when you’re shopping) and continue to checkout. We’ll pair this order with your Farm Box and make sure everything comes at one time (and, you’ll never pay a delivery fee for any order that you receive on the same day as your Farm Box delivery day!).
When am I charged for my Farm Box order?
Your Farm Box order (and any add-on subscriptions) will be charged two days prior your delivery day.
You have my card on file, do I have to enter it again when purchasing a la carte?
We've heard from many of you that not having to reenter your credit card information for each order is important, so we've built our system to accommodate! Upon checkout, just be sure to check the box that says "Bill to my card on file" and we'll do the rest!
